With the flute as principal instrument, Sheng-Che graduated from National Taiwan University of Arts with a BA in Music, Taipei Municipal University of Education with a MA in Music and afterwards from Birmingham Conservatoire with a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Performance. He has also performed in master classes worldwide, with such renowned flautists as Trevor Wye, Janos Bálint, Shigenori Kudo, Sarah Louvion, Benoit Fromanger, Amy Porter and Marie-Christine Zupancic.
Whilst a student in Taiwan, he performed with the University Symphony Orchestra as principal flute and also enjoyed gaining experience in many other orchestras around Taipei, such as Taipei Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and Taipei Century Youth Symphony Orchestra. During his postgraduate year in the UK, he also participated in numerous orchestras and ensembles at the Conservatoire, which increased his proficiency in ensemble and orchestral performance.
As well as performing, Sheng-Che also enjoys working as an educator. From 2002 to 2010, he worked as a freelance flute instructor at various music centres and schools in Taiwan. The main responsibilities included working with individuals and small groups of all ages that are just starting out with their instruments, to students that are of an ABRSM Diploma standard.
Since moving to the UK in 2013, his main job has been that of a self-employed music teacher and has joined the Coventry Music Service as a Flute and Piano Tutor. Teaching all ages and abilities gives him a sound communication ability between students and parents, in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Most of his students have successfully obtained good results in exams. Recently, one of his students passed ATCL flute with a distinction and two students passed ABRSM grade 5 and 6 flute with distinction; another five students at grade 2, 4 and 5 flute and grade 2 and 3 piano with merit.
